On behalf of GLCA/ACM colleges, Japan Study has a membership at the International House of Japan in Tokyo. Faculty from consortial colleges are entitled to use library and other resources at the I-House and also to receive a discount of 20% on overnight accommodations.
Each year one GLCA/ACM faculty member (Japan specialists and non-specialists) spends the year at Waseda with 30-40 students. Under an agreement between consortial colleges and Japan Study, faculty members typically receive all of their benefits from their home university for this year of professional development. It is considered a year of teaching rather than a sabbatical year. Past RD’s include tenured and tenure-track faculty from all ranks.

Japan Study works with Waseda University to place Japanese language instructors on GLCA/ACM colleges. These instructors are recent graduates of Waseda's graduate programs in language instruction. The following colleges have participated in this program: Albion College, Earlham College, Grinnell College, Hope College, Macalester College, Monmouth College and St. Olaf College. Contracts and teaching responsibilities vary by campus. For more information, contact Dyron Dabney.
This faculty exchange program brings Waseda faculty members from a variety of academic disciplines to GLCA/ACM colleges for 3-4 weeks each February and March. The Waseda faculty members become familiar with U.S. higher education, especially liberal arts colleges. They also contribute to campus activities by giving lectures, attending classes, and meeting with students and faculty. Exchange professors have joined extended student-faculty field trips to Costa Rica and Chicago, visited nearby GLCA/ACM colleges, and reciprocated by hosting groups of host campus faculty and students at Waseda.
Japan Study encourages GLCA/ACM faculty to visit our program at Waseda. We can arrange up meetings with students, visits to classes, andmeetings with Waseda faculty members and administrators.
